All social media platforms are agog with anti-protests of Big Brother Naija reality show using the hash tags #BBN and #BBNaija, because of what people sum up as immoral acts. Although the show features Nigerians the location is sited in South Africa where it’s being broadcast. I heard and read a lot had been happening on the show: drunkenness, sexually explicit scenes and other vices. The recent voice of opposition is from Nigerian Senators who are petitioning the house to pass a law that would stop the show from being aired. I have also seen an online petition canvassing for signatures so the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission would place a ban on the show. Where does the Christian stand in all this?
First, I want to join voices to say I disagree that the
reality show shouldn’t be aired by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC)
and I stand by that resolve. The show should be continually aired, let those
who tune in their channels to watch it continue watching it. I do not believe
airing the reality show is the problem, I strongly believe the tragedy is in
the minds of those who watch the show. When an individual sits back to watch such
programmes and amuse himself with the
images that run across his screen, isn’t it self-evident that such an
individual is already hooked on something immoral before the advent of Big Brother
Naija? Christians should choose their battles carefully and also note that a
sinful man is an immoral man and it takes God to re-engineer the mind laden
with sin.
Please follow my line of thoughts carefully. Just by “Googgling”
the internet it is quite easy to access a pornographic site, download free porn
images and videos. But why don’t you engage in it? Because God has built in you
a framework that says “It is wrong” and He has strengthened your will to shun
it. Without stress you can swipe past pornographic ads without thinking twice. Without
a protest you are daily exercising your willing for the purpose of
righteousness. The more you choose the right stuffs with your will the more you
wean your will against unrighteousness. Last time I checked, I don’t think
anyone has been mandated by the Federal Government of Nigeria to stay glued to
the channel, watch #BBNaija or stopped from activating the Parental Control
option on a decoder. Christians are always looking for a level playing field to
work out their faith but the truth is they are not going to find it.
I clearly remember that the Bible says in the last days
humans would do more wickedly, sin would be more pronounced and shame would
flee from public scenes. Is it perhaps, we do not read the Bible? Or we expect
those prophecies to prove false? We keep saying the end is near yet we keep
rejecting the signs. The kingdom of God is like a marathon race; dear brother
and sister stop whining and run your race with endurance. What is wrong with a
sinner sucking on another sinner’s breast on camera? Is it not so obvious to
you that a sinner would naturally sin and engage in shameful acts? Else they
cease to be a sinner.
Somehow Christians have come to believe that they are home
in this fading world and that the world systems should be more lenient so they
can practice their faith. That is simply nonsensical. Haven’t you read Hebrews chapter
eleven before? Faith lives to wrestle against oppositions, it only thrives
against harsh conditions. Temptations are informal examinations all Christians have
to partake. It is as sin abound that we must keep shinning our lights. Christians
are lights. If we are still struggling against changing our cable channel or turning
off the TV, when shall we be mature enough to be willing to die for Christ? Because
no protest will avert that wave of persecution recorded in Revelations 6:9-11.

If you cannot fight to lay hold on God, if Jesus is not
worth every ounce of your energy to separate yourself and follow him, your
faith is shallow. After all, it is he that endures to the end that shall be
saved. If there is no trial against your soul, there is no need for endurance.
Remember Noah in his own days and lot who dwelt in Sodom and be courageous to
live through the time. Stop being a chicken, that is not your calling, you are
to become an eagle. Does it mean all Christians should fold their hands?
Actually in history, this generation of Christians are
likely to be the laziest. Do you know how frivolous an average Christian is? We
waste time uploading all our “Selfies” on the internet, we comment on
irrelevant topics, gossips, we find it difficult to share the gospel through creative
writing or go round the street meeting people and sharing Christ. we sing the
name of Christ as a means to an end and we are in the entertainment industry
with a confused identity. On the other hand, we see the devil and his cohorts working
rigorously to harvest souls into the kingdom of darkness and retain them there and
yet we are complaining? Complaining about what? May the gracious God silence us
wherever we lazy Christians complain instead of working.
Jesus said, "My Father is always at his work to this
very day, and I, too, am working. “ John 5:17. What work are you engaged in for
the glory of God? Do I speak like a fanatic? You, perhaps want to be just a Christian
in the corner of your heart, go to church and come back only so your Bible can
gather dust and cobwebs, God bless your heart. But remember that a candle is
not lit to be buried under the table. One day you’ll stand before the one who
paid so much to rescue you; I hope you will not be ashamed before His presence.
Finally, be assured that Big Brother Naija is just a glimpse
of the gross darkness that shall swallow up the world. The bible didn’t ask
that we should pray so these evil days would not appear, rather we are told to
live each day with wisdom and no longer as fools. We are to redeem the time for
the days are evil. Leave Big Brother Naija alone, stop complaining and start
working. Allow the breath of the Lord inspire your spirit as you communicate Christ.
Flip your channel, shun evil and let your light so shine before all men. I
believe this to be the counsel of the Lord on #BBNaija.
